It was the same evening of 13th November that comes every year. But the city, somehow had a rhythm to it, the busy streets were charged up, not with the everyday chaos, but with anticipation of what was to come. It waited to witness stars at XIMB. It was the last night of Xpressions, the biggest fest in eastern India and the joyous event got a befitting end with a live performance given by the super hit musical trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy!
Echoes of thunderous applause as the SEL trio arrived vivified the campus. They embraced the audience in the charm of their music, starting the evening on a pious note by singing “Brakra Tunda Mahakaya”. From faculty to students to the college staff, each one could be seen tapping their feet to the beats of Koi Kahe from Dil Chahta Hai. Shankar addressed the audience by saying “My most satisfying experience has always been to sing for the students”. The trio expressed their joy on being in Orissa and getting a taste of it’s culture. The crowd swayed at the tunes of “Pretty Woman” which the SEL dedicated to all the ladies. Love was in the air when they performed “Tera Sajda” from My Name is Khan as each one reminisced of their dear ones. With “Where’s the Party tonight “ and “Jhoom barabar”, they made the crowd rock and roll. “Kal ho Na Ho” reminded everyone that life is beautiful and every moment should be celebrated. They sang a medley of some of their best songs to which the crowd bowed in admiration. One after the other, the living legends sang their super hits, casting a spell and making the entire college squeak with delight. Everything seemed synced as it was meant to be.
All hands in the air waved rhythmically to beats while some couldn’t stop themselves from swaying to the music. Leaving behind the tension of work and the pressure of deadlines, away from the humdrum of life, the fascinating night brought heart warming smiles, laughter, tears of joy and sweet memories. The night ended on an ecstatic note with the trio’s last song “Suno gaur se duniya walo”. It was the unforgettable evening which had turned into a cherished night, a much needed break from stressful schedules. It is possible to live with joy, only if we allow ourselves to hear the melody of life.
